Our Youth Advisory Board

Susie is President of our Youth Advisory Board.  Susie is in the ninth grade and although she hasn't picked one, plans to attend college. She isn't sure what she would like to study but she is thinking about ornithology, more specifically raptor biology and perhaps avian veterinary practice.  Susie has spent a lot of time working with certain foals at the rescue, helping to gentle them enough to make them desirable for adoption.  She has spent most of her time with a red grade Quarterhorse named Little Chief.  Little Chief was fostered in a pasture near the rescue with several other foals as they recovered from illnesses they came in with.  He was moved to the rescue in September and has improved greatly. In FOHRAA's fall horse show, Susie and Little Chief earned the highest overall score for the obstacle course.

Kelci is the Honorary President of the Youth Advisory Board at FOHRAA. She represents the youth volunteers and will help to ensure a smooth transition for the horse from FOHRAA to it's new home.  She is a sophomore in high school and enjoys spending her free time working with horses and learning about horse care and training. After high school, she plans to attend an in-state college to study biology, animal training, equine studies, or some other animal-related field.  Lately, Kelci has been working hard with Dakota, a lovely quarter horse yearling saved in July, who came in underweight and very shy.  Since then, under her care and gentle training, he has put on quite a bit of weight and become much more confident.  They have become buddies at the rescue and because he is a very intelligent horse, Dakota is more enjoyable to work with during each passing day.

Raija is a member of the FOHRAA Youth Advisory Board. She is currently an 8th grader and has been a regular volunteer at FOHRAA since just after it was created. She loves being a part of the group.  Raija is a horse owner, but during her volunteer time she has been working primarily with Bailey, a nervous but sweet yearling, that came to us in May and who needs to find a new home soon.
Raija is hoping to continue on to an International Baccalaureate program in high school next year.

Monica is a member of the Youth Advisory Board at the rescue. She is a sophomore in high school and likes to spend time at the rescue getting to know the horses and how to train them.  Since becoming a volunteer at FOHRAA in September 2003, she has learned a lot about horses and frequently helps new volunteers learn what needs to be done at the rescue and how to go about it.
After high school she wants to attend college to study something in the field of science.
Monica has been working with Duo Luna, an extremely sweet quarter horse foal, who got his name from his unique brand on his hindquarters.
